Individual Self-Fulfillment

I believe that Individual Self-Fulfillment is one of the most important values of free expression. The Eight Values of free expression include discovery of truth, participation in self-government, stable change, individual fulfillment, check on Government power, promote tolerance, promote innovation, and protect dissent. Individual Self-Fulfillment allows individuals to create their own identities which is very beneficial to our Government in that it allows individuals to have a say in how their country is being ran.

Free Speech allows individuals to express their opinions, therefore allowing them to create their own identities. This is important because if individuals were not allowed to express their opinions, society may begin to disagree with the way the Government is running the country, ultimately leading to the people wanting to go against the Government or resenting their country. This would be a negative effect overall because their would be no patriotism, which makes our country so great. Allowing individuals to express their opinions is also beneficial to the Government in that if people didn't develop their own opinions or identities, they are not able to elect representatives or the president effectively. If individuals were not able to elect representatives effectively, it does not allow individuals to have a say in their government, which makes our Constitution so unique.

On June 8th 1789, when the United States Constitution was ratified, the House of Representatives stated "The people shall not be deprived or abridged for their right to speak, to write, or to publish their sentiments; and the freedom of the press, as one of the great bulwarks of liberty, shall be inviolable". Presentation: Media Consolidation

Since I was absent during the day of presentations I decided to choose a topic in my presentation group to focus on. The topic that really interested me the most was Cord-Cutting. This topic caught my eye because I am a cord-cutter myself. Instead of watching regular cable television, I now use alternative internet-based services such as Netflix and Hulu instead. Cord-cutting, in regards to broadcast television, refers to the pattern of viewers (known as cord-cutters) that cancel their subscriptions to paid television channels, like ABC or CBS, for alternatives such as Netflix and Hulu. As stated in the presentation, trends now show that cord cutting takes place in 20% of American homes and is predicted to increase to 30% by 2024. The reason for such an increase in cord cutting is because Americans are constantly looking for a better deal economically from different providers rather than the one they are already subscribed to. The Power of Blogging

My Reflection Reflecting back on the blogs I have written this semester, I have seen my ideas and thoughts develop greatly on the impact that widespread media has had on our society and government. Starting off I viewed media as being nothing more than individuals wanting to share their every day lives with others through social media apps such as instagram and snapchat. As I learned more about the significant impacts that media has had throughout history in my Media Law & Literacy course, I have learned how widespread media has a a much more significant meaning. New Meaning of Empowerment  The First Amendment was the start of many important parts of history where free expression has impacted the world in which we live in today . Online Footprints

My Online Footprint  Everyone googles themselves at-least once in their lifetime. If you are an avid user of popular social media sites such as facebook or twitter, those profiles are usually the first to come up. When I googled myself, my profiles for Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter popped up. I was not worried because I have always portrayed myself properly on my social media knowing that one day companies will google me if I was being considered to be hired. However, as I scrolled down I was embarrassed to see foolish projects that I did in high school posted on my youtube channel and a twitter profile based on the show "Dora The Explorer" that I had to make for my spanish class freshman year of high school.  I thought to myself, if I was an employer and saw this, what would I think?
